 The great barrier reef

The great barrier reef is considered one  of the greatest  natural wonders this world has to offer, with over 2,300 indaviagle  reefs system and is one of the  largest tourist attractions, due to the fact that it is visited by over 2 million people each year the giant reef is Located inwestren queensland-along towns and cities such as townvil and caines. Unfortunately, thanks to frequent  human habitation has taken its toll on the famous coral reef, witch is sadly, we have observed that some parts are slowly dying, due to many major bleaching (bleaching is a sign of when a reef is unhealthy and vulnerable )  - now 93% of the reef affected compared to 42% in 1998 and 54% in 2002. The great barrier is bigger than any other reef  meaning it has its fair share of advantages and disadvantages one of these is the cornstarfish population has spiked in recent years the cornstarfish can take over an ecosystem by flooding native creatures and life and could extinct the reef. If there were too many more of these extinction acts it could push the coral giant over the brink of exenton, which would leave the  natural and unnatural world’s  balancing for survival.

Marine plants

(In general)

Without marine plants, almost all creatures that lived in the ocean wouldn’t exist- marine plants protect and shelter and food source which cannot be replaced by any human or man made creation even a natural source. Marine plants can be found almost anywhere in the ocean but are more common in warmer climates that produce more sunlight and nutrients meaning  marine life can thrive more than in colder waters. We estimate that there are at least one million discovered species in the oceans around the world. Even though we live in totally different environments  the extinction of marine plants would collapse an extremely important natural food source  possibly killing us out too.If you compare  marine plants against land plants,  most marine plants are much better in tougher  colder climates but land plants- most can survive in things marine plants haven’t experienced- the wind and rain in a conclusion majority of   marine plants are tougher than land plants another thing is that a marine plants are more devenive- poisonous  than land plants, while land plants tend to be more solid than marine plants. The deepness of the of the ocean can often determine  the shape  texture and colour  of the marine plant.

Water wheel plant

Known in the world of science as Aldraranda, the waterwheel plant is one of the only carnivorous marine plants, they are rootless and free moving plants that prefer warmer  shawoller waters. These marine plants are ruthless and will stop at nothing to catch their prey, as pretty and as graceful as they are the waterwheel plant can sometimes be known to trap your feet if you are careless enough to wander into  their territory! You can find these  marine plants floating along the surface of warm tropical (pasific ocean) waters.

Sea anemone

The anemone can be found growing in large clusters, mostly near tropical coral reefs or otherwise in warm shallow waters, or even sometimes(though very rare) can be found with the presence of kelp. Only the clown fish is immune to the sea anemones poisonous stings due to a gene connection between the two. While beautiful it would be unwise to stumble this poisonous sea plant without proper footwear, the effect of the sea anemone’s sting can be deadly or leave long term pain in the affected area.

Red sea whip

Boling to Grease, the red sea whip is certainly more fond of warmer climates or otherwise, despite its name can be found in the cool rocks of the atlantic ocean, or even in the sandy bottoms of coves. The red sea whip is also called the finger gordon not only because of it’s tentacle-like appearance but because of its genetic family. Though very beautiful on show, the red sea whip is almost impossible to maintain in captivity. It can survive in nothing more than medium light and rootish temperatures. Its main diet consists of microplankton and if not, other microorganisms such as shrimp and krill.

Sea grasses

Though not considered a real species of grass, sea grasses are actually sea flowers found everywhere in the ocean, very different from land plants in the areas of food sources and habitat . They prefer warmth and shallowness and are especially common in tropical waters with a warm current flowing through but can be found on the off coast of australia. Sea grasses provieds many habitats or life lines for many organisms. The sea grass is very wide spread due to the moving curant that collects the pollen and spreads it along the coast or water. Their roots are strapped to the ocean floor.

Phytoplankton

Without phytoplankton, almost all marine plants would extinct and the whole ocean ecosystem would collapse, so in short phytoplankton is extremely important or in other words a absolute lifeline for all marine life-plants or not plants.Micro Phytoplankton can be found dotted around the coastal areas of the pafic ocean. Its appearance is mainly crashfish like but with long antennae. Since it is much more helpful to marine plants it is partly considered a marine plant instead of a marine animal.

Coral reefs

Coral reefs are absolutely key in the ocean ecosystem, mainly just a strong build for any ecosystem, holding from  hiding places from predators to nutrients as well habitats for  fish and organisms. The coral reef usually consists of  tiny dead fish and invertebrates, biologically speaking coral reefs are made up out of many millions and thousands of particles of the ocean. Coral reefs take thousands of years to form-this is an extremely delicate process and can be ruined at the slighted human or non-human touch, we are okay at this but it is a fact that there would be more coral reef colonies in the world's oceans. Coral reefs bleaching’s main course is human things such as certain brands of sunscreen and skin care products are things that cause coral reef bleaching, Coral reef bleaching: when the reef goes white and is a sign of it dieing. Coral reefs make a great tourist attraction.

Kelp

A picture of a kelp forest will look very much like a tropical rainforest, they grow in huge numbers, are one of the most thriving plants under the sea and are considered the largest. Did you know that they can reach an amazing height of 250 feet! They like most marine plants prefer warmer climates but can live in lukewarm waters, they stay afloat near the surface to release  floatation  bubbles to stay afloat. Kelp were initially known to only roam cool coastal areas  but then a forest of them was then found in the pafic ocean proving the theory wrong. Kelp are marine plants that are brown and rich in nutrients as well as full of oxygen.

Marine fungi

Finding marine fungi in the ocean is rare but not impossible; only a small amount (5%) of the world's fungus is found in saltwater. Oceans compared with most environments can be unstable and unsure at times in terms of temperature and survival. Some fungi can be found floating around but most fungi are found in some rotting plants and scales as well as fish, the most common way to treat this is with a teaspoon of salt but sadly there are some fish that can’t tolerate salt. Marine fungi tend to prefer colder waters or basically the midnight zone. Almost all types of marine fungi are quite harmless in terms of their diseases they hold but not all cannot be dangerous marine fungi can sometimes be the cause of  some water borne diseases-probably the most dangerous is moslakas .

Biodiversity

Is a bond of food chains and connections between non-living and living things things that make up an ecosystem, these ‘webs’ of biodiversity can easily  collapse, most of the time this is due to the cause  of the main base dying for example coral reefs

Painting the city

Artworks and Their Purpose

Painting the Town

Artwork

Reason/Purpose

The black hat

The black hat is a reproduction of an art  destroyed in the Christchurch earthquakes.

I seem to have temporarily misplaced my humour

The mural was made  for people who lost something or something  in the quake.

  We got the sunshine

Is inspired by music to help others get up from the quakes

Fly Me Up

Artwork

Reason/Purpose

Fly me up

Is an artwork made by Lots of children from all around Auckland and the globe.

Where is home

Helping homeless people and giving them somewhere to sleep

Close to the spirts

To add colour and brightness to the world around us.

Today we are reading about the Christchurch quakes and the artwork people painted around them. I hope you enjoy.
